Bread Machine
Common Bread Machine Cycles and Types of Breads:
Every Manufacturer has its own number of cycles and purpose depending on your bread making equipment.
Basic / White Bread Cycle: Takes 3-4 hours with two rise cycles; ideal for standard white sandwich loaves and basic yeast recipes.
Whole Wheat Cycle: Takes 4-5 hours because heavy whole-wheat flour requires longer kneading and rise times to develop texture.
French / Italian Cycle: Uses extended rise times and higher baking temperatures to yield a crusty exterior and chewy interior.
Sweet Cycle: Adjusted for dough with high amounts of sugar, butter, eggs, or milk (like brioche, challah, or cinnamon raisin) by lowering bake temperatures to prevent burning.
Quick Bread Cycle: Bakes non-yeast recipes relying on baking powder or baking soda, such as banana bread or pumpkin bread, by skipping the rise phase entirely.
Dough Cycle: Mixes, kneads and proofs yeast dough without baking, allowing you to shape items like cinnamon rolls, bagels, or pizza crusts by hand.
