Taco Seasoning
Fresh spices make for the best taco seasoning, which is part of why homemade taco seasoning beats the pants off of store-bought. Who knows how long those packets have been sitting on the shelves. Buying your spices in bulk, if possible, will ensure the spices are fresh. Buying in bulk is also often less expensive than buying them pre-packaged. This easy homemade Taco Seasoning recipe adds amazing flavour to beef, chicken, veggies and more. We love using it with enchiladas, tacos, burritos, and so much more.
2 Tbsp. chili powder
5 tsp. ground paprika
4 tsp. ground cumin
3 tsp. onion powder
2 tsp. garlic powder
¼ tsp. ground cayenne pepper
¼ tsp. dried oregano
1 tsp. crushed red pepper
Combine all the ingredients together in a small bowl and whisk until mixes thoroughly.
Use a funnel or small spoon to carefully transfer to a small spice jar or other airtight container.
The seasoning keeps well in an airtight container at cool room temperature for up to 6 months.
Makes 1 cup.
Cook's Notes:
- Taco seasoning packets vary a little bit by brand, but most are about 1 oz by weight, or 3 Tbsp.
- Use 3 Tbsp. of this homemade version for every packet you're replacing in a recipe, or for every 1 lb of protein.
- This recipe can be doubled or halved easily.
- Feel free to swap in "specialty" versions of the ingredients, such as; ancho chili powder for the chili powder.
