Guinness Ice Cream Float (Irish)
I first heard of this surprisingly appealing concoction - sort of a root beer float for grown-ups - from a friend of a friend of Belle Casares, née Holahan, a granddaughter of Irish-American writer John O'Hara, who was in turn descended from the Anglo-Norman Franeys of County Laois.
1 cup vanilla ice cream, softened but not melted
2 cups Guinness or other stout beer
2 Tbsp. chocolate syrup
Divide the ice cream equally between 2 tall, ice-cold, wide-mouthed glasses (soda fountain glasses) or glass beer mugs.
Slowly top the ice cream with Guinness and drizzle with chocolate syrup, if desired.
Makes 2 servings.
