Meat Sauce (Slow-Cooker)

2 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
1 lb ground beef
1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
1 large onion, minced
2 medium carrots, peeled and finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 (14½ oz) cans diced tomatoes, drained
2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
3 bay leaves
2 tsp. Italian seasoning
sea salt
black pepper, freshly ground

To Serve:
2 Tbsp. fresh basil, finely chopped
Parmesan cheese, freshly grated

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add ground beef, sausage, onion and garlic. Cook until browned, about 4-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the beef and sausage as it cooks; drain excess fat.

Place ground beef mixture into a slow cooker. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, bay leaves, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper, to taste.

Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours.

Boil your pasta and at the same time add basil to the sauce and stir well. Serve with pasta and Parmesan cheese.
